We’re very proud to share our first #ThisNoiseRocks interview, and we’ve started out with a firm TNR favourite – anthemic metal band Fail The Enemy.
The Keighley based band, who’ve featured heavily on our Spotify playlists this year, recently released their self-titled EP and toured the UK with Ashestoangels and Kill The Silence. We caught up with the band to find out what it was like being mentored by Crilly and Nikki from Ashestoangels and what’s next for Fail The Enemy!
Can you all introduce yourselves and give us one fact about each of you?
“Nathan Lawton – watches an excessive amount of Gordon Ramsey. Elliot Green – looks like he’s got too many teeth. Aiden Robb – very blatantly missing a tooth. Bailey Roper – drunk mess.”
Where did the name ‘Fail The Enemy’ come from?
“The name came from Bailey and a former member at college, they thought it sounded good and it’s been the band’s name ever since.”
What are your musical influences?
“Marilyn Manson. Rob Zombie. Avenged Sevenfold. Motionless In White.”
What’s it like being mentored by Crilly (Ashestoangels) Nikki (Ashestoangels/ Bad Pollyanna) and Rock Seen?
“It’s been a massive learning experience for us working with Nikki and Crilly from Ashes. We feel like we’ve improved so much in such a short space of time due to their knowledge, talent and experience, and the fact they kept pushing us to be the best we can be. Working with Donna (Rock Seen) is awesome, she is very talented at what she does and knows her stuff. She has helped us so much in terms of the image of our band and we couldn’t have done any of this without her!”
How was the tour with Ashestoangels and Kill The Silence?
“Tour was ace! Being on the road for 9 days doing what you love with your best mates, you can’t ask for much better than that. We have also made some great friends in the guys from Kill The Silence. Watching the lads from KTS and Ashes, bands with more experience than us, we have learnt so much from both bands just by watching them play every night. It’s been a great learning experience for us and couldn’t have asked for better bands to share it with.”
You’ve just released your self titled EP, tell us about that?
“We love our new EP and are so proud of every song on it. We had our minds set on creating a new and different sound for our band and we are so happy with the result. The EP incorporates synths in nearly every song which is something we had wanted to do when we started work on this record. The synths are now something that we feel is definitely a big part of our band and we will continue to use them in future projects.”
What’s next for Fail the enemy?
“We will be definitely be gigging more, writing and hopefully get back on tour as soon as we can!”
When you’re not making music, how do you spend your time?
“As a band we hang out as much a possible. Going on nights out and just generally spending time with each other and our other mates. Even when we’re not in band we still find ourselves talking about music.”
What’s your favourite films/tv shows?
“These are some of our favourite films and tv shows; The Devils Rejects, House Of 1000 Corpses, Sons Of Anarchy, Nightmare On Elm Street, Snatch. We mainly like our horror films.”
Cats or dogs?
“Dogs.”
If you could have a super power, what would it be?
“Nathan – immortality. Elliot – invisibility. Bailey – pyrokinesis. Aiden – reality manipulation.”
Who is the most annoying band member, and who is the nicest?
“We all have our little annoyances with each other, as everyone does when you’re so close. Bailey’s probably the nicest in the band, because he’s so easily approachable and polite.”
